Assisi and Spoleto are two of the most beautiful historic centers in the area, are located in the center of the region and are linked by an easy cycle route. The route is just 51 km long and you can also tackle on a single day, but if you decide to go with your children, it is advisable to dedicate a weekend. The track runs almost completely on the flat, partly on secondary countryside roads and partly on cycling track. Ideal is to stop in Bevagna, a delightful medieval town about halfway between the two cities whose historic center deserves a thorough visit.
Starting from the Basilica of Saint Francesco in Assisi you have to cross the center paying a little attention to pedestrians but, once you leave the city you continue on country roads where meeting a car is really difficult. Approximately 14 km after you arrive at Cannara, a famous place for its onions; a real delicacy! From here, alternating bicycle path and road, you reach Bevagna.
Once you reach Spoleto, you can take a break in the bikegrill area and enjoy a snack or lunch. The itinerary ends in the historic center of Spoleto, but if you want, you can continue along the Spoleto-Norcia Old Railway.
